The project is complete! The reason I did the project was so that in doing the portraits, I could consider and meditate on the relationships I have and have had with the people I chose to paint. Each person I painted has had a profound effect on my life in the last while. They have, each one of them, taken me on a journey. Some have held my hand and walked a road with me, others, just by being near, have reflected back at me qualities and opportunities both, that I needed to be cognizant of. I am astounded that I have had the good fortune to have these brilliant, brave, quirky, beautiful people in my life.
I have written prose for each person that is to be sandblasted into the glass that goes into the frames. The idea is that on viewing the portraits one has to look through the prose and also ones own reflection to see the image of the person. In the end, we are all one.
The final portrait is of myself. It was a very difficult one to do. We see our reflection briefly each day, but we very rarely look deep.. I was amazed to really see my face. There was much I did not recognize. In the process, I became very aware of the difference between the left and right side of my face,- I know that there is always a huge difference between the 2. One side portrays easily the side we present to the world, and the other is the hidden.
I will post images of the framed works once they are done, together with the prose.
Each one so remarkable, Tess. This one especially so. So much in those eyes. xxxxxxxx
