SPI National Portrait Award

I began the painting of Swain back in April and halfway through the process decided to submit it to the SPI National Portrait award sponsored by Sanlam and organised by Rust-en Vrede gallery in Durbanville. An astounding ±1740 submissions were made, of those, 40 works were chosen, and I feel honoured to be amongst them.Tonight I attended the gala award event where the winner was announced. The works chosen were an interesting selection, and the award went to Heather Gourlay-Conyngham. I have no doubt that the selection will bring about much debate, and rightly so.
I feel priveledged to be exhibiting alongside a good many brilliant, very talented artists.
My favourites were works by Ian Grose, Tamlyn Blake, Sanell Aggenbach, Clare Menck and Angela Banks.
The exhibition is definitely worth seeing and will be on at Rust-en-Vrede for a while before traveling around the country
