Barrydale painting complete

Its a wonderful thing to be in a small striplit studio in the middle of town and still manage to lose myself in the vastness of the Karroo landscape, stumble up massive mountain passes and run from the coming storm across the veld leaving tumble weed in my wake.
& so was the experience of doing the Barrydale painting.
The next one is of the early morning light buttering the mountains ..cant wait!

New project - Klein Karoo

I have been commissioned to do a landscape painting of an area outside of Barrydale, in the Klein Karoo. The client invited me to go and spend last week end on the farm, to experience the landscape and the light.
Friday night, the full moon rose above the mountains lighting our way through the passes, and when we arrived at the old farmhouse and fell into country sleep, we had no idea what we would wake to in the morning.
Magnificent is the only way to describe the area. Saturday morning we woke to butter light washing the mountains and the flat plains below, but by noon the sun was high and all about became bleached of shadow and depth, and then the afternoon clouds rolled in with the soul energy of M J Lourens and Pierneef.
Inspiration kicked, and I feel like i have fallen into a very intoxicating affaire..i start the painting next week..

Below are some photos I took of the area
