For a group show in May with Eclectica Modern, I am working on 4 large canvases with thread, metal leaf and pigment. Here are 2 of the works in progress. I will post more pics as I go.

Eastside Studios - Silent Auction
In November last year, our studio did our annual silent auction which is always a great party and an excuse to clean the studio and paint the walls and invite everyone to see what we have been up to for the year. Here are a few works I did for the evening. They are all oil on metal leaf on canvas.
Sister trilogy: Part 2- the portrait studies
I already did a posting of the first portrait study for the Sister trilogy show, but here are the other 2 and also some pics from the actual show:
Short journey of a painting

Finding the thread...
The start of the year is always rocky for me as I grapple to move into a new year with new work, and find a path both exciting and challenging.
I ordered 2 large canvases - both 160x160cm and metal leafed them as I am wanton to do as the light play on the surface immediately comes to life and then I started to play...paint, pigment, glazes and eventually thread. I sent images out to the galleries I work with and the response was brilliant, and so I did a few more..
The inspiration for the works is an intense emotional response to certain music…ranging from Alt-J to Chet Baker to Kerouac’s collaborations with various Jazz musicians. The process of making the works is about taking a journey into my most private head/heart space, and expressing the beauty and the calm that exists there.
...and I began another portrait too...

Sister Trilogy
I am very excited to be exhibiting these three works at the Trent Read Gallery in Knysna sometime toward the end of September. The works are life size (120x180cm) and are oil on gold leaf on paper.
The model is my sister, the actress, Claire Berlein.
The paintings for me are an ode to the sensuality, beauty and fragility that my sister and all women embody. In a world filled with so many hard edges, I set out to capture softness, quiet and magnificence.
